What is the impact of COVID-19 on Maryland businesses and their plans for recovery?
Understanding how National Capital Region businesses are affected and recovering from COVID-19 shutdowns
Challenge
A coalition of economic development organizations in the National Capital Region wants to
- Understand how industries, such as health care, retail, and hospitality, have been affected by the COVID-19 shutdown and safety measures for reopening
- Learn what innovations these businesses have adopted to survive and thrive
Solution
The Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) tapped hg体育官网 to develop monthly and then quarterly surveys with items about COVID-19 impact on revenue and product offerings, and the resources businesses have used to adapt.
The survey is being conducted in the following Maryland counties of the National Capital Region: Anne Arundel, Charles, Frederick, Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George’s.
The sampling plan provides representation of businesses in 6 capital region counties across a variety of characteristics:
- Businesses size
- Ownership demographics (e.g., women-owned, minority-owned, veteran-owned)
- Industry (e.g., information technology, cybersecurity, bio-health)
hg体育官网’s sampling design divides the representative sample into rotating “cohorts,” each of which receives the survey no more than 4 out of the 16 longitudinal survey administrations.
The Results
MCEDC and its coalition partners will use the research results to project the pace of recovery in the National Capital Region, identify resources, and provide tailored tools and information in support of the efforts of businesses in the targeted industries to innovate, adapt, and succeed.
